The Master Weaver

My previous post was on God as the Master Quilter - and this one has to do with God as the Master Weaver.  I'm neither a weaver nor a quilter - nor a seamstress of any kind, so what's with all the seamstressy-like analogies popping up around me?

I was flipping through my copy of Body & Soul magazine when I came to an article by Frances Lefkowitz called "Happy in Hard Times".  It opens with a myth about a woman in a cave who is "weaving the world into existance," but every time she turns away from her weaving, her dog pounces on the masterpiece causing it to unravel.  When she turns back to her weaving and discovers its chaotic disarray, she considers it all for a while - and then begins again, weaving a design even more beautiful than the one before.

Isn't that just like our God?  No matter how often we mess up the tapestry of our lives, we can always hand the wreckage over to the Lord - and though we see only disaster, He sees a new design - a beautiful one - and He begins again.

The old is gone, the new is come.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
